Congrats to Karyn!

In May, I got to go see my sister graduate! She earned a Bachelor's degree from Angelo State University and is pursuing a career in teaching. It was an adventure traveling out to San Angelo with Grant. He did very well on the long trip, though.

This is his second "road trip" in the past month or so. Last month we drove from Corpus to Dallas (approx. 7 hour drive, see pic of us at a pit stop below) to my friend Heather's baby shower. As long as someone sits in the back seat with Grant and pays attention to him, and we keep him well fed, he actually seems to enjoy traveling. It's been fun having little adventures with him.

Anyway, it was great seeing my baby sister graduate! It is hard to believe how fast time has gone by. It seemed like yesterday we were playing pranks on one another and pulling each other's hair. Now she is a COLLEGE GRAD!

CONGRATULATIONS KARYN!

Concerts

So I had the opportunity to go to two AMAZING concerts in May! Anyone who knows us, knows that we are pretty big country fans so this was very exciting for us. I always want to go to concerts but I always feel bad about spending money.

First, my sister calls and tells me that she got Carrie Underwood tickets for my birthday. I was ecstatic! A few weeks later, I hear about a special pre-sale of George Strait tickets. I started thinking about how much effort James always puts into special days for me and how little I seem to do for him. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do something really fun to surprise James for his birthday! So I went ahead and got 4 tickets because I knew they would sell out fast. James was excited to go to the concert and my sister and future sister in law came with us. We were far away but we had a GREAT time! It was a dynamite concert. We got to hear 4 awesome sets: Randy Rogers Band, Lee Ann Womack, REBA McEntire, and George Strait! It was 5 hours of nearly continuous, awesome music. I am so happy that we got to go. I love George, but Reba was my favorite, she ROCKS live!

Then me and my sis got AWESOME seats for Carrie Underwood-first row towards the middle/back side of the American Bank Center. We felt soooooo close! This is also one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to. After a semi-crappy opening band, we got to hear Craig Morgan sing some great songs. He put on an AWESOME show. I loved it! When Carrie came on, we were soooo excited! She is a dynamite live singer.

I couldn't believe how GREAT she sounded. She hit every note and you could clearly hear that it was 100% her live, real voice.

One of the most exciting parts was when she sang, "Country Roads," by John Denver. That song has a special place in my heart since I served my mission in West Virginia. She was lifted out across the audience in a blue truck and rode around in the air. She was literally right above us! It was awesome.

Thanks for a great night, sis!

3 Months old!!!

Grant was three months old on April 23, 2010! I can't believe how time is flying. It feels like he is doing something new literally every day! I absolutely love watching him grow. He grows cuter every day. We are so proud of him.

Here are some of the fun things he is doing:

  • Can hold a toy and look at it

  • Holds his hands up and looks at them

  • Puts things in his mouth (especially his hands)

  • Smiles in response to us and also spontaneously

  • Turns his head in the direction of sound

  • Can follow you with his eyes

  • Has started to laugh (sounds kind of like a cough)

  • Has started to like his bath

  • Can hold his head up really well

  • Can roll over from tummy to back

  • Kicks his legs when he gets excited

  • Likes to watch the TV! haha

  • Likes to be held facing outward and look around

  • Likes it when you touch, talk, and sing to him

  • Gets visibly excited

First trip to the beach

One of the great things about living in Corpus Christi is that we are so close to the beach. We have already started making regular trips out there to cool down from the South Texas heat and have some fun. We went out there one evening with some friends of ours and had a blast. We swam (I didn't get in, though), built a fire, roasted hot dogs and ate S'mores.

It was Grant's first time to the beach. He loved being outside but it was very windy, so we had to make sure we kept him wrapped up in a blanket. It is so much fun taking him new places. Everything we do is extra fun now that we have him there with us. We are seeing him experience everything for the first time and that brings us a lot of joy.

2 Years of Marriage

We celebrated our 2nd anniversary on March 15, 2010. Some friends of ours watched Grant while James and I went out on a date. It was so thoughtful of James to plan out our evening. It was a simple evening, but in a way, that made it all the more wonderful. It is heartwarming to know that we simply enjoy being in each other's company, no matter what we are doing.

Here we are eating out at one of our favorite places, Niko's Steakhouse. It was delicious, as always.

After dinner, James and I drove around downtown and then took a walk down by the marina and Corpus Christi Bay. We stopped by the replicas of the Columbus ships and enjoyed the evening breeze.

I am so grateful for my husband. We started dating each other over 5 years ago and our love still continues to grow each day. We have been through so much together and he is truly my best friend. I love you, James!

To commemorate our anniversary, here are a few pics from our wedding and reception:

Grant's blessing

On March 7, 2010 we blessed Grant at Church. Many of our family and friends were able to attend in support of our little son. Grant wore a family christening gown that is almost 100 years old. My Nana wore it, my dad and his siblings, and me and my siblings. It was a very special part of the day. James gave a beautiful blessing to Grant and it was a very special expierience. We feel so blessed to have him as a part of our family and we feel that he is a very special spirit. He has already brought so much love into our lives and unity in our families.

Testimony of the Book of Mormon

This book has changed my life. I know that it is the word of God. Listen to this video clip about it. :)
